Birthdays, Haircuts and Snow!!

This is just a little of what we have been doing the last couple of weeks! Dave's birthday was last week and I surprised him by having the kids go to Sterling for the night so we could go on a date Thursday night and then fishing on Sat! We had a lot of fun and Dave was really surprised - he said it was his best birthday ever! After fishing we headed to Sterling for my dad's birthday - he turned 60 so we had a party for him with friends and family. We had a great time! The kids were with Granny and Papa most of the weekend playing outside and helping take care of the kids - baby goats that is. They had a blast and didn't want to come back home. I forgot to take pictures all weekend :(
This week was pretty laid back - we kind of did our Spring Break from preschool this week - I wasn't planning for that it just kind of happened. Our friends from Nebraska were suppose to come visit this weekend but didn't because of the storm, I was pretty bummed out. They are coming in a few weeks though.
I've been in a lazy mood this week, which is pretty uncommon for me. I'm usually 100 miles an hour all the time. It was nice, but I'm ready to get back to my old self again. Dave had the afternoon off yesterday because it snowed so much. We went over to our neighbors for chili and sat around watching basketball.
Today we went sledding with our neighbors - it was a lot of fun! There is a great hill in the neighborhood across the street from us. A family was there and they had huge inner tubes that were super fast. Shane wanted to go on them right away after he saw how fast they went. Julia didn't want to go on them at all. She stayed on the slower ones - I didn't push it - although I knew she would love it if she tried it. After a while the smaller ones must have lost there fun and she decided she would try the faster ones. I wasn't sure how she would react but after we went down she said, "I want to do that again!" It takes her a while to get brave enough to try certain things and once she tries it she usually LOVES it! I'm the exact same way with things like that. I'm just glad she eventually gets up enough courage to try things, it's better than not trying at all! I feel like Shane is going to be more like Dave and not be afraid of anything!
Anyway, that's an update from our family!

Breakfast Conversation!

Last week Julia slept-in until 9:00am (very unlike her - must be the time change). Shane was hungry so I went ahead and fixed breakfast, got a plate ready for Julia and sat down with Shane to eat. Not long after we sat down Julia came out of her room groggy, and sat down with us. I said, “Good morning sweetie.” She said good morning and sat there for a few minutes and then she said, “Mommy, Jesus is God right?” I told her yes and explained that Jesus came down from heaven in a body just like ours and was God as a human here on earth. She sat there for a minute processing what I said. Then she said, “Mommy I want to give Jesus my heart!” With tears in my eyes I asked if she knew what it meant to give Jesus her heart. She told me she didn’t know exactly what it meant but that she loves Him and wants to give Him her heart. I told her it means that she has to do what Jesus wants her to do with her life and not what she wants to do. That in every decision she makes she has to think if that is the decision Jesus would want her to make and would it make Jesus happy. I told her she needs to read her Bible and pray to Him everyday and get to know Him better and fall in love with Him more. Meanwhile Shane is sitting there agreeing with everything we say. This whole conversation with my five year old blew me away! Her heart for Jesus is so pure and honest - it is amazing. It’s not damaged by hurts in her life, it’s not damaged by other people telling her Jesus isn’t real, it’s not damaged by what the world says is logical or probable, it’s not damaged by what the world says is popular or cool, it’s not damaged at all - this is what faith is - love for Jesus!
I know this is what Jesus was talking about when He said, “...Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And He took the children in Him arms, put His hands on them and blessed them.” Mark 10:14-16
My prayer for Julia is that her love for Jesus continues to grow and that she will never stray from the path He has planned for her life. My prayer for myself is that I will fall more in love with Jesus and have that same child-like faith I see in Julia!
